Ricardo Gareca: I'm a free-agent coach right now

15:09 | Lima, Jul. 3.

Ricardo Gareca affirmed he is a free-agent coach at the moment since his contract with the Peruvian Soccer Federation (FPF) has come to an end.

The coach has requested time to make the best decision for his future.

"I need time to give some thought to the matter (...) I'm not making a decision until I get enough time," he stated.

"I'm temporarily leaving for Argentina to rest with my family, but I'll be back," he replied when asked about his future with the national team.

Likewise, the 'Tiger' Gareca finds it gratifying —from any point of view— that his name is on the list of candidates to coach Argentina's national squad.

Speaking from a press conference at Lima-based National Sports Village (Videna), the Argentine provided an overview of the Incas' participation at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which ended early after losses to DenmarkFrance, and a victory over Australia.

In his opinion, his team's expectations were not met as he did not expect to be knocked out during the first round of the tournament.

"It was a hard blow," he emphasized referring to the fact of bowing out of soccer's biggest event.

Gareca noted that while he was not satisfied with the results at the World Cup, Peru moved forward —in terms of soccer— enhanced its image, and rose to the occasion.

Additionally, he thanked Peruvian fans' support during the preparation and tournament itself, describing them as incredible.
