President Vizcarra: Peru is opening a new stage

11:33 | Lima, Dec. 16.

President Martin Vizcarra on Monday said Peru is opening a new stage, stressing that there is greater awareness of the harmfulness of corruption, which is an indispensable step to eradicate this crime with a view to the country's Independence Bicentennial in 2021.

During the academic-year closing ceremony of the Peruvian Air Force Officers College, he said the country is opening this stage with the support from young people and most Peruvians, despite some contrary voices and certain resistances.

"Today, there is a true awareness of the harmfulness of corruption and even more when it is joined by impunity. This is a positive and indispensable step that should allow us to eradicate evil and build, with a view to the (Independence) Bicentennial, a solid, honest, and transparent country," the President stressed.

"This fight requires the commitment and participation of all of us," he underlined.

In his speech, the Head of State addressed the young graduates, as well as those who are completing studies at schools, institutes and universities, plus those who are already part of the workforce.

Likewise, the President said 2019 has seen important progress in education; health; construction of roads and bridges; recovery of the principle of authority where previously illegal mining used to dominate; reconstruction; promotion of family farming; and fight against corruption.

"In 2020, let's renew our enthusiasm and commitment to the country, let's stand firm in the task of making a better Peru," he added.
