12:30 | Lima, Mar. 28.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Saturday afternoon reported that one million vulnerable Peruvian families have each received the S/380 (about US$107) bonus to face the national health emergency aimed to prevent the coronavirus (COVID-19) from spreading in Peru.

Out of the 1 million, who have already received the subsidy, half of them received the amount in their accounts, so that the money can be withdrawn from ATMs and not necessarily from bank branches.

The subsidies are aimed at households of poverty and extreme poverty as support at times of coronavirus emergency.

Said amount is transferred both through private banking and the State-run Banco de la Nacion.

That initial bonus is worth S/380 as it was intended for a period of 15 days. Because of the emergency extension, it will total S/760 (about US$214).

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Saturday marks the thirteenth day of mandatory social isolation.
