Peru President: Bonus to be granted as of seventh social isolation day

14:42 | Lima, Mar. 18.

The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday announced that the S/380 (about US$107) bonus to be granted to each vulnerable family —during the 15-day quarantine period— will be delivered as of the seventh day of social isolation decreed by the Government to prevent the coronavirus (COVID-19) from further spreading in Peru.

"In the middle of the quarantine period, that is, on the seventh and eighth day, the S/380 bonus will be delivered. That's why we are working intensively through the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the Peruvian Association of Banks (Asbanc)," he told reporters.

Around 9 million Peruvian citizens are projected to benefit from this subsidy.

The Head of State explained that the database is being checked to define the people who will receive the amount through bank transfer.

The top official specified that this data review will also allow defining the banking institution through which the money will be transferred.

"We want that the mobility needed to collect that economic subsidy will be the minimum possible," he stressed.

On the occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.
