President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday announced that an investment —worth over S/500 million (over US$139 million)— will be made to improve the Peruvian Army's infrastructure and boost the development of military personnel in the coming years.

According to the Head of State, an urgency decree will be published to finance investments at the national level. This will strengthen the institution and —at the same time— contribute to the economic reactivation needed in these times.

"This investment, which in several years exceeds S/500 million (over US$139 million), will be allocated mainly to two large projects: Kuntur and Sipan," he indicated.

In the case of Kuntur, the aim is to improve the institutional habitability of the barracks at General Hoyos Rubio Fort in Lima. Concerning Sipan, the operational capacities will be recovered and all facilities of the Seventh Infantry Brigade in the Lambayeque Region Garrison will be enhanced.

"We are in the same battalion, and we will do everything on our part to reinforce the Peruvian Army," he said.

During his participation in the ceremony to commemorate the 199th anniversary of the Republican Army foundation, the Commander-in-Chief said he feels privileged to lead the Armed Forces which in the past had contributed to shaping the Republic and later faced terrorism with braveness and courage.

In order for the Armed Forces to continue delivering the best of themselves to the homeland, they need the nation to reward them —for those efforts— with greater resources and better conditions, and that is why investments will be made, he highlighted.
