The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Friday expressed his administration's willingness to dialogue in order to solve the nation's problems —especially on sensitive issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic, health, education, and employment.

During his participation in 131st session of the National Agreement Forum, the Head of State emphasized the need for a special effort on consensus and dialogue among all members of this group.

"In my administration, you will always find the highest willingness to talk, to dialogue, to seek solutions and proposals to advance on priority issues for the (sake of the) country, such as the case of the pandemic, employment, and education," Mr. Castillo indicated.

"We have a great challenge ahead. Therefore, we need to undertake coordinated efforts," he added.

In this sense, the top official specified that other priority issues —such as the fight against poverty and extreme poverty, economic growth, and the generation of decent employment— would be placed on the National Agreement session's agenda.

"I am convinced that the dialogue that we begin today will be the first of many that we will hold during this Government in order to specify not only the understanding, but also that we will know how to solve the major needs and the huge problems faced by the country in a context of pandemic that continues to hit our nation," he told attendees.

For this reason, the President stated that a commitment must be made to work together in a single direction and towards governability, especially for those who had been historically marginalized.

"Peru hopes that its authorities will leave our particular interests and ideologies aside, as well as lend our shoulders, to get out of this pandemic and achieve economic reactivation," Mr. Castillo said.

"The time has come for the unity of the country, and within the framework of unity, we believe it is important to strengthen the institutions for the sake of all Peruvians," he added.

Following the presentation of reached consensus, National Agreement Executive-Secretary Max Hernandez handed over this document to the President.

Subsequently, the Head of State called on forum members for this meeting not to be held behind closed doors but rather openly and in other areas of the country, meaning diverse macro-regions.

As is known, the National Agreement Forum is the tripartite space for dialogue and consensus building, made up of the Government at its three levels (national, regional, and local), political parties with representation at Congress of the Republic, and civil society organizations.
