Speaking at the opening of a government-to-government meeting, Peruvian President Alan Garcia said Thursday that Peru and Ecuador are implementing the commitments outlined in their Binational Plan and urged to join efforts to complete the Puyango-Tumbes irrigation project.

President Garcia noted that the start of this “extraordinary” project is going to further enhance integration between Peru and Ecuador, adding that both governments can jointly ask for financial support to speed up these works that will benefit both Ecuadorian and Peruvians farmers.

In his address at the Third Peru - Ecuador Binational Cabinet Meeting, Garcia also suggested the construction of a heliport in Tiwinza, a one-square-kilometer area which was ceded to Ecuador after the 1998 peace treaty.

Concluding his speech in the northern city of Piura, Peru's President Alan Garcia made his Ecuadorian counterpart Rafael Correa an "honorary Peruvian."
