The
on Thursday affirmed that during the second year of his administration —which begins today— he will extend his hand to all political sectors to work together so as to solve the country's problems, leaving behind the climate of confrontation that had prevailed during his first year in office.
"This first year I have received a slap on the cheek from those who had not accepted losing legitimately in the presidential elections, as a result of the conscious vote of the Peruvian people," Mr. Castillo expressed.
"However, in this second year, I will not turn the other cheek, but I will extend my hand to work together for the benefit of the people, based on the national development goals," he added.
The Head of State pointed out that "despite receiving a country that is emerging from the (COVID-19) pandemic —with more than 230,000 deceased Peruvians— and the annoyance of those who believe they are the owners of this country, we continue moving forward along with our compatriots who have placed their trust in us for Peru to be changed."
In this sense, the Head of State requested a minute of silence for more than 230,000 citizens who lost their lives due to the pandemic.
"We will continue working and serving our homeland, so that all Peruvians live in a fairer and more dignified society," he affirmed.
Similarly, Mr. Castillo ruled out any involvement in corruption, and reiterated his commitment to submit himself to open investigations initiated by the Attorney General's Office.
