Peru consolidated its position as the center of regional dialogue on aviation and air connectivity by hosting the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association's Airline Leaders Forum (ALTA AGM & Airline Leaders Forum 2025).

More than 400 global leaders attended, including airline CEOs, aviation authorities, and international experts.

During the opening of the important international forum, the Vice Minister of Tourism, Aracelly Laca, highlighted this important event as a space to strengthen Peru as an ideal destination for international meetings, conferences, and events.

On the other hand, she highlighted the strategic role of air transport in economic growth, noting that between January and August 2025, foreign air trade reached US$16.6 billion, representing a 25% increase over the same period last year.

She also reported that between January and July of this year, more than 25 million passengers traveled through the country's airports, representing a 7.7% increase over the same period last year.

"Since the inauguration of the new Jorge Chávez International Airport, our numbers have skyrocketed, boosting the country's competitiveness and reaffirming our role as a logistics and tourism hub in South America", the vice minister emphasized.

Laca noted that Peru expects to close the year with a total of 54 air routes to 22 destinations. Among the new connections are those connecting Lima with Orlando, Salt Lake City (both in the United States), Florianópolis (Brazil), Iguazú, Tucumán (both in Argentina), and Curaçao.

In this regard, after the forum's inauguration, the Vice Minister held meetings with representatives of Turkish Airlines and Delta Air Lines to promote the implementation of new routes to Istanbul (Turkey) and Salt Lake City, strengthening the country's international connectivity.

The opening ceremony of the ALTA AGM & Airline Leaders Forum 2025 was attended by Ricardo Limo, Executive President of PromPerú; Roberto Alvo, President of the Executive Committee of the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association; and Peter Cerda, CEO of the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association; and Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization.
