PM Villanueva: Peru, U.S. together in pursuit of peace

16:11 | Paita (Piura region), Nov. 5.

Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva on Monday affirmed Peru and the United States stand together in the fight for peace.

Furthermore, the official highlighted the North American country's support aimed at solving the Inca nation's social problems.

"We are together in the fight to achieve peace; a struggle to save lives, not to destroy them," Villanueva expressed.

The Cabinet chief also noted the work and aid provided by the United States to the health sector, as well as the presence of the U.S. Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) anchored at Paita Port.

"Health does not have borders or visa," he added.

For that reason, the Prime Minister —on behalf of President Martin Vizcarra— visited the USNS Comfort along with Defense Minister Jose Huerta and military authorities.

Furthermore, they toured the medical facilities and witnessed the efforts undertaken by the crew for the benefit of the northern Peruvian population

As is known, the USNS Comfort —under the command of Captain Kevin D. Buckley— arrived at Paita Port on October 30 on a medical assistance mission.

Medical teams from Massachusetts General Hospital; Harvard University; University of California San Diego; World Hope International; Argentine White Helmets Commission, and Canadian military medics participated in the medical assistance mission.

They were also joined by volunteers from Peru's Universidad de Piura, Universidad Antenor Orrego, Universidad Cesar Vallejo, and NGO Rescate.

Additionally, the NGOs Food for the Poor, Project Cure, and Midwest Mission Distribution Center provided donations.

"We want to express our gratitude for this gesture of solidarity," Villanueva concluded.
