President Martin Vizcarra on Monday said that he hopes the Peru Pact will identify viable alternatives to address the situation of Public Pension System (ONP) affiliate members.

The Head of State affirmed that the State has made human, material and budgetary efforts in recent months in order to ease the financial situation of millions of families affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the statesman, the ONP pensioners may be included in this vulnerable group, as they have contributed their work and effort, but now they receive meager pensions.

"I hope that, as I have said, this forum can find viable alternatives consistent with the budgetary capacities of the State so as to meet the just demands of pensioners who deserve fairer and more dignified treatment," he said.

Similarly, the Peruvian leader reiterated his call for further joint efforts, convinced that shared objectives are more powerful than ideological or political differences.

"We are all committed to Peru and its people. This is the first Peru Pact meeting. I trust this process of dialogue will allow us to chart the way towards the bicentennial and lay all the foundations for the future," he emphasized.

Remarks were made during the 129th session of the National Agreement Forum, which addresses issues raised by the Peru Pact.

As is known, such pact was launched by the Executive Branch by end-July. The initiative is intended to encourage dialogue beyond the COVID-19 crisis.
