In his
Address to the Nation —delivered on the occasion of Peru's 199th Independence Day Anniversary commemoration— President Martin Vizcarra called on political forces to join the Peru Pact.
Goals
The initiative is intended to encourage dialogue beyond the COVID-19 crisis.
Likewise, it aims to lay the foundations for a country whose basic agreements help consolidate democracy and channel the political debate, so that the country can move forward after the Bicentennial, which will be celebrated in 2021.
Basic agreements
The Peru Pact includes five basic agreements:
- Agreement to create a unified health system.
- Agreement to ensure educational quality.
- Agreement to promote sustainable economic growth and investments, and to propose policies that improve the State's capacity to identify and dismantle anti-competitive practices.
- Agreement to continue the political and justice administration system reform, the strengthening of democracy and the fight against corruption.
- Agreement on the fight against poverty and extreme poverty.
Expectations
In his
Address to the Nation, the Head of State noted that the five-point agenda is ambitious and that he is convinced this is worth trying.
"I am willing to create the space for political leaders to put the circumstances aside, so that we are able to achieve the agreements needed to strengthen our democracy," he stressed.
