The
President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, stated that the government will continue demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the security of all Peruvians by taking action on the streets alongside law enforcement.
The Head of State added that this approach aims to achieve results and encourage subnational authorities to work in the same direction.
"What we are doing right now is, first, fighting crime—something that was not done before—by addressing the issue directly," Jeri expressed.
"We are on the streets, in the field, leading so that other authorities also follow our example, and little by little, results are being achieved and will continue to come," he told reporters after providing a preliminary assessment of his first month in office.
The top official indicated that his administration found many pending issues to address as a transitional government.
He added that the decisions being made are focused on engaging with the population.

"We maintain constant contact, as we are a modern government with direct interaction, which is essential for me," Jeri expressed.
The top official indicated that among the main changes made by the Executive Branch are the way communication is handled and how rapid executive decisions are being made to address Peru's key problems.
"I will be able to detail the goals achieved in due course because I like to share information progressively and always responsibly, but there is a strong commitment and conviction that this must be earned on the streets, by listening and acting with the competent authorities. This Government is doing it—not just leaving it in speeches, but being on the field, as it must be," he emphasized.
The top official said that the preliminary figures handled by the Executive Branch are encouraging. However, he noted that work is still ongoing to achieve the goal of reducing the crime rate to the lowest possible level.

"The exact figures will be presented by the Cabinet, with the relevant ministers and myself present, but there is one thing that is very clear: we have found the crime rates, as well as public perception of insecurity, on the rise," Jeri noted.
"One of the first objectives was to prevent them from continuing to peak. First, we need to control or mitigate them as much as possible so that declines start. The entire strategy revolves around this," he asserted.
President Jeri stated that the population's demands are assessed daily, not only regarding security but also other pending issues at the economic and social levels.
"We listen to criticism because, ultimately, this is a government oriented to work for those who favor it, but also for our critics. The government is for everyone," he concluded.
