The Peruvian Government and people express their solidarity with the citizens of Venezuela over the profound sorrow caused by the powerful earthquakes that struck their country, resulting in loss of lives, injuries, and severe material damage, the President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, said in a statement on Friday.

"I have ordered the deployment of a Peruvian rescue team, supported by search-and-rescue dogs, as well as the delivery of humanitarian aid aboard a Peruvian Air Force aircraft carrying tents, food, water, essential supplies, and other relief items for affected families," the Head of State expressed in response to this tragedy.

"I propose that the heads of State of the Americas coordinate a joint task force to organize international humanitarian assistance and demonstrate, through concrete actions, the solidarity of our nations with Venezuela. We will continue to closely monitor the needs of our Venezuelan brothers and sisters," Balcazar added.

"I hope for the swift recovery of those injured and the speedy reconstruction of the affected communities," he concluded.

Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez announced on Friday that the death toll from the two powerful earthquakes that struck the country had risen to 589, while the number of injured people reached 2,980.

She also confirmed that 214 aftershocks had already been recorded.
