The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) has announced that Turkish Airlines will officially enter the Peruvian market in 2027.

The airline will operate the Istanbul–Caracas–Lima route, with the aim of expanding Peru's international connectivity as well as creating new opportunities for tourism, trade, investment, and air cargo transport.

To make this milestone possible, the MTC's General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) carried out extensive technical and diplomatic efforts that helped unblock the project, which had remained stalled for more than two years due to reasons beyond Peru's control.

Thanks to this ongoing coordination with Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the authorities of Venezuela and Türkiye, the airline was granted authorization and fifth freedom traffic rights on June 23, 2026, enabling it to operate the Caracas–Lima segment, the MTC indicated.

This achievement represents one of the main accomplishments of the sector's Open Skies policy.

South American hub

"Through this vision, the new Jorge Chavez International Airport—Lima's main gateway—is being established as a major hub in South America, enabling Peru to connect, via Istanbul, with more than 300 destinations across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa," the MTC stated.

Turkish Airlines and the DGAC are already coordinating the authorization and facilitation processes through technical meetings, which will continue over the coming weeks.

These working sessions will contribute to establishing the implementation timeline for the new service.

They will also help complete all the regulatory and operational procedures required to ensure the safe and efficient launch of flights to Peru in 2027.

The MTC said that it remains committed to strengthening Peru's integration with the world.

"By promoting more air routes, fostering inter-agency coordination, and encouraging strategic partnerships, the sector is demonstrating its capacity to drive Peru's economic development and provide better air transport options benefiting all Peruvians," it concluded.
