The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Wednesday emphasized that the ultimate goal is to defeat the coronavirus pandemic, adding that government authorities will not rest until all citizens are vaccinated.

"The ultimate goal —let's put it very clearly— is to defeat the pandemic; we are working on that, and we will not rest until everyone is vaccinated," he said during a press conference.

Likewise, the Head of State indicated that this vaccination process will exceed the transitional Government's term in office. However, his administration "will set a clear path forward."

"We will defeat the pandemic and vaccinate everyone. In order to do so, we need the active participation of the entire society; some resistances to vaccination threaten us all, and I hope that —during the awareness campaigns to be proposed— we will be able to solve this problem in one way or another," he added.

Concerning the formation of the ad hoc working group —to ensure the vaccine implementation— and its difference from the Vaccine Command, the top official explained that the latter developed an interesting work.

However, he said, one thing is to make contributions from outside and another is to do so "within government structures."

"In this sense, we have a common goal, and we have incorporated what the Prime Minister described, which means that we are putting together (a working group) to be announced very soon (…)," he added.

The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti led a press conference on Wednesday, thus marking his first month leading the Transitional and Emergency Government in Peru.

His term in office is expected to end on July 28, 2021.
