The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Saturday affirmed that the transfer of power to the next administration —to take office on July 28, 2021— will be transparent.

Within this framework, the Head of State explained that transfer procedures have been clearly established.

In this sense, the top official said regulations indicate that there must be a team of the elected party and the current Executive Branch.

"We want to do two additional things: in the first place, make it as transparent as possible, so it can be known what we are leaving (for the next administration)," he told RPP TV and radio station.

Likewise, the statesman pointed out that the person responsible for the transfer would begin working on June 7 —a day after the presidential runoff election between candidates Pedro Castillo (Peru Libre) and Keiko Fujimori (Fuerza Popular) is held.

Furthermore, the Peruvian leader stressed that it is important to anticipate a third wave and the need to be prepared, for instance, by acquiring more ICU beds.

"As the Head of State, I want to inform the new president about what would have to be done (…)," he added.

Moreover, Mr. Sagasti indicated that significant progress has been made during his short administration, which took office in November 2020.
