The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Thursday expressed his gratitude to Para athlete Angelica Espinoza for giving Peru the first gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

"Dear Angelica, thank you for gifting us the first gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games," he wrote on Twitter.

In addition to showing appreciation to Espinoza, the Head of State affirmed that his Government is committed to supporting all Peruvian athletes.

Moreover, he noted that Peruvian nationals with disabilities are an important part of the engine that our society needs.

Espinoza boosted in each of her kicks the strength of a country which had dreamed of a medal, that wanted to listen to its anthem on an Olympic or Paralympic stage.

Finally, she made that dream come true in the sweetest, most joyous, and desired way, gifting Peru a gold medal at this year's Paralympics.
