Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Espa received
United States' Secretary of State Marco Rubio at Torre Tagle Palace, the Foreign Affairs Ministry's headquarters, Thursday morning.
Afterwards, they went into a private meeting.
At Torre Tagle, the Secretary of State was awarded the Order of the Sun, which he said was a great honor as it is one of the oldest distinctions in the hemisphere, dating back to Peru's independence in 1821.
He added that the distinction is a symbol of the strong ties between both nations.
He will follow an official agenda that includes a meeting with President Keiko Fujimori Higuchi at the Government Palace.
The meeting will help deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries and strengthen cooperation ties on matters of priority for our country.
Both officials will address issues of common interest, with particular emphasis on strengthening cooperation on El Niño phenomenon, security, the fight against transnational organized crime, defense, investment promotion, and bilateral trade.
Before arriving in Lima, Rubio said that, in the case of Peru, he has high expectations for working with the Government to project the 200 years of bilateral relations into the future.
