Min: Marco Rubio's visit highlights Peru's importance to U.S.

The visit by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlights Peru's importance to the United States, said Agrarian Development and Irrigation Minister Marco Vinelli.

As is known, the senior official made an official visit to our country that included meetings with Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Espa and the President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori.

"This visit is always positive. The fact that the U.S. Secretary of State is visiting Peru also shows the country's relevance to the United States in the geopolitical and global analysis," Vinelli told Exitosa radio.

In this regard, he noted it will be necessary to make the most of this moment and this visit to continue strengthening our relations with the the U.S.

Regarding the announcement of Peru's incorporation into the Shield of the Americas, Vinelli said it is a good opportunity for our country.

"It means having intelligence and logistical support because we are facing a very serious security situation, and the United States can support us in achieving faster results," he indicated. 

The minister said U.S. support for Peru in addressing the presence of El Niño phenomenon will be important because the North American country has extensive logistical capabilities.

The U.S. even announced the arrival of the hospital ship on the coast of Piura, northern Peru.
