The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Saturday affirmed it is not easy to say Merry Christmas to Peruvians due to the major needs faced by households in the country.

"It is not easy for me to say Merry Christmas, because I know there are many needs in households; there is a lot of inequality," she expressed, noting that as a woman what she seeks "is to work in peace, calmly" so as to solve the country's problems —as demanded by the population.

The Head of State said she would have liked to start her Transition Government "without that violence, without those human losses which hurt me."

Thus, Mrs. Boluarte reiterated her condolences to the families of the deceased citizens.

"How much I would have wanted this situation of violence, which hurts my heart, not to happen," she emphasized.

Similarly, the top official called on citizens to march peacefully so that they are not taken advantage of "by groups that seek to use them to generate violence in the country."

"Why is there the need to take over airports or set institutions, like the Judiciary and the Public Ministry, on fire? What does that solve? In the face of health, education, water, and agriculture needs, what does that solve? It doesn't solve anything," she said.

Dialogue

In this sense, the President reiterated her call for dialogue with the newly-elected authorities, such as regional governors and mayors who will take office on January 1, as well as with State ministers and Congress members.

"All of us, in this articulated effort, have to start working to solve the problems that have not been solved. Let's bring tranquility to the country. If there is peace and calm, more people will come to serve the country; with that investment we can capitalize the economy and, with that economy, solve the problem of (affecting) education," she said.

Moreover, the President affirmed that among the issues which concern her are education, health, housing, as well as building roads and bridges, so as to get farmers' products. Thus, Mrs. Boluarte reiterated that communication routes should not be blocked.

"Why (is there a need to) take over roads? At some point (in the past), I went out to protest for demands that were fair, but we never blocked roads or set institutions on fire," she affirmed.

In her address to the Nation on Christmas Eve, Mrs. Boluarte called on citizens to work for the nation, but without violence or chaos, saying that if they do so, they should "unmask themselves, show their faces, and say what they are demanding."

"It has been difficult for us to get out of more than 20 years of horror and violence, then why generating that chaos and violence again? Let's seek peace, the consolidation of our homeland," she added.
