Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Monday expressed confidence that the democratic forces at Congress will not fall into the game of sowing disorder.

Remarks were made when asked about the second presidential vacancy motion, whose admission to debate will be discussed today at Congress.

"I am sure that the democratic forces of Congress, which are the ones that prevail and think about the population's well-being, will not fall into the game of a political group that wants to generate chaos and disorder," he expressed.

The Head of State argued that not even Peruvians agree with this motion, stressing that 80% of the population —according to the polls— reject the presidential vacancy, because they want Peru to hold general elections in April 2021, as were called by his administration.

In this regard, the top official reported having authorized the transfer of resources to the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) in order to guarantee free and transparent elections, in which all Peruvians will choose their new authorities.

The statesman ratified that there is absolutely no proof of the accusations against him; however, he regretted that another attempt is being made to destabilize —not the government— but the nation.

"A (presidential) vacancy process destabilizes the country (...) We want to continue working together without destabilizations, without agendas set by a political group that wants to generate chaos and disorder," he said.

Thus, the Peruvian leader asked Congress members to reflect on the matter, noting that —in October— there was no vacancy motion. Thus, the Executive Branch worked in a focused manner.

"And look at the results we have gotten," he added.

"In October, the impact of COVID-19 declined steadily, and we have increased public investment to a record number, because we have worked calmly, even coordinating with Congress," he underlined.

The dignitary commented that the population does not remember the reasons why the first presidential vacancy motion was dismissed, which shows the fragility of those charges.
