Peru: Congress holds meeting to seek way out of political crisis

Parliament's Board of Spokespersons is currently holding a meeting at the Legislative building to seek a way out of the political crisis in Peru.

Congress Chairman Luis Valdez —who assumed his position after Manuel Merino de Lama was sworn in as President of the Republic on November 10— leads the meeting, which takes place in private.

The Board of Spokespersons is made up of spokespersons from nine parliamentary groups.

Last night, Valdez asked President Merino to assess his resignation, adding that new Congress Board members would be elected so that a constitutional succession takes place.
