Peruvian Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez on Friday reported that Mother's Day (May 9) will be of social immobility in force nationwide as a preventive measure against COVID-19.

During a press conference, the high-ranking official affirmed that the goal is to protect mothers.

"Surely, we will really want to hug them, but let's do it with a creative and virtual hug or via phone call. We want to avoid contagion and, in many areas of the country, we are still at high and extreme risk (of COVID-19 contagion)," she expressed.

"Sunday, May 9, will be a day of strict mandatory social immobilization nationwide," she emphasized.

Bermudez also pointed out that citizens cannot stop taking care of themselves as long as the virus is present and every citizen of legal age is not immunized.

Remarks were made during a press conference held at the Government Palace in Lima.
