Peruvian Linda Lecca became the absolute champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA), after she secured a 10-round unanimous points victory over the Brazilian fighter Simone da Silva.
The bout was held at El Cancherin de Huarochiri sports arena on Friday night, May 31.

“I feel very happy to win this title”, Lecca said. “I dedicate it to my family and my people in Peru. Thank you all for believing in me. It was a tough fight, but we managed to pull it off.”

“This is what I have fought for. Fortunately, I succeeded. Thank you to all my followers for being here and for their continued support,” she added.

Lecca gained her first world title as she defeated her Brazilian opponent by unanimous decision. The judges favored the Peruvian 100-90, 100-90 and 99-91.

This way, Peru has a new world champion in boxing. In 2009, Kina Malpartida also claimed first women's world boxing crown in the WBA’s featherweight category at Madison Square Garden in New York.
