The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) highlighted that State media maintained neutral and balanced coverage throughout Peru’s 2026 presidential runoff election process.

According to a preliminary EU EOM report, coverage by traditional media focused primarily on the presidential candidates and criticism of electoral authorities, while some private outlets also continued to disseminate fraud narratives.

In this regard, the delegation noted that its monitoring found that state media maintained neutral and balanced coverage, while most private outlets provided reporting that was systematically negative toward Roberto Sanchez and Together for Peru Party.

Likewise, it highlighted that the National Elections Board (JNE) debates involving campaign technical teams and the presidential candidates contributed to informed voting.

Additionally, the EU EOM indicated that the digital environment during the runoff remained highly polarized, marked by ongoing challenges to the first-round results and criticism of electoral institutions.

The EU EOM's monitoring of electoral fraud allegations on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X found that these narratives persisted throughout the runoff period and were promoted by identified political actors, particularly Rafael Lopez-Aliaga (Popular Renewal Party).

The mission detailed that, from May 9 to June 7, it monitored prime-time broadcasts on the national television channels TVPeru, America TV, Latina TV, ATV, Panamericana TV, and Willax TV, as well as Radio Nacional, RPP, and Radio Exitosa.

It also monitored the newspapers El Comercio, La Republica, Correo, Peru21, Trome, and the Official Gazette El Peruano.

The EU EOM will present its final report on the 2026 General Elections process next August.
