Peru: Transportation Minister tenders resignation

Geiner Alvarado has submitted his resignation letter as Minister of Transportation and Communications to the President of the Republic Pedro Castillo.


The initiative received 94 votes in favor, 14 against, and 8 abstentions.

Alvarado was sworn in as Minister of Transportation and Communications on August 5, 2022. Previously, he had been serving as Minister of Housing, Construction, and Sanitation since July 29, 2021.


The Prosecutor's Office currently investigates him for allegedly being part of a criminal organization that might have benefited from contracts managed by the Ministry of Housing, Construction, and Sanitation.

In Peru, the Public Ministry is independent from the Executive Branch.
