The Public Ministry has formally asked the Judicial Branch to prevent Geiner Alvarado from leaving the country. Alvarado, Transportation and Communications Minister of Peru, was censored by Congress earlier today.

The Prosecutor's Office currently investigates him for allegedly being part of a criminal organization that might have benefited from contracts managed by the Ministry of Housing, Construction, and Sanitation.

The initiative received 94 votes in favor, 14 against, and 8 abstentions.

Alvarado was sworn in as Minister of Transportation and Communications on August 5, 2022. Previously, he had been serving as Minister of Housing, Construction, and Sanitation since July 29, 2021.

In Peru, the Public Ministry is independent from the Executive Branch.
