Peru: Trade surplus stood at US$430 million in March 2019

13:28 | Lima, May. 10.

Peru's trade balance recorded a US$430 million surplus in March 2019, thus reaching US$1.212 billion in the first quarter of this year, Central Reserve Bank (BCR) has reported.

Exports totaled US$3.698 billion, 11.8% lower than the figure recorded in the same month 2018, as a result of the decrease in export prices and volumes.

However, non-traditional exports increased 1.4%, underpinned by greater shipments (+7.2%), especially, of farming, fishery, and chemical products.

On the other hand, imports amounted to US$3.267 billion in March 2019, down 7.3% compared to the same month last year, due to lower purchases of inputs as well as capital and consumer goods.
