Peru: Non-traditional exports up 2.8% in 1Q 2019

Peru's non-traditional exports amounted to US$3.238 billion in the first quarter of 2019, thus increasing 2.8% compared to the same period last year, Peruvian Exporters Association (Adex).

According to ADEX, this sector was underpinned by the agro-industry, which totaled US$1.436 billion (+6.4%). 

Fresh grapes, mangoes, blueberries, and fresh asparagus stood out in this sense.

The agro-industry was followed by the chemical sub-sector (-2.8%), fishery exports for direct human consumption (+22.1%), and the iron-steel sphere (-21.5%). 

On the other hand, garment sector's exports expanded 8.4%. 

Meanwhile, shipments from the metal-mechanic and non-metallic-mining sub-sectors slid -8.4% and -8.9%, respectively. 

Lastly, textiles (+4.6%), wood (+10.4%), and various (+10.6%) also increased.
