Many families in Arequipa, as well as domestic and foreign tourists, enjoy the long
Holy Week break in the White City participating in different religious, craft, culinary, and tourist activities organized on this occasion.
The Artenasias del Sur Fair is held in downtown Arequipa, on Santa Catalina St. The event comprises more than 20 stall of artisans, as well as micro- and small-sized entrepreneurs from Cusco Ayacucho, Puno, Moquegua, and Arequipa, who display the best of their handcrafted works to visitors.
The fair showcases alpaca fiber garments, embossed leather, clay and ceramic handicrafts, hand-woven clothing, silver jewelry, among other products that are to the liking of locals and tourists.
Artesanias del Sur was inaugurated on April 1 and will last until Sunday, April 9. It opens from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The exhibition-sale called "Expo Arte por Semana Santa" (Holy Week Art Exhibit) is held at San Francisco Square, in downtown Arequipa. It brings together more than a dozen artists, and will run until April 27.
One of the exhibit's highlights is the fact that artists will offer free classes during the expo sale.
Participants will be able to observe and learn from the entire process of performing artistic works from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. until the first fortnight of April.
In addition to participating at these fairs, visitors can explore the Arequipa countryside and enjoy the gastronomy offered of the local people.
Moreover, you can visit tourist places such as the Molino de Sabandia, the Ojo del Milagro complex in Characato, and the Andes in Yumina.
