Peru: Hotel occupancy rate in Ancash region at almost 60% for Holy Week

17:51 | Huaraz (Ancash region), Apr. 6.

The average occupancy rate of Ancash formal hotels for Holy Week is almost 60%, the head of the Peruvian Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Related Businesses (AHORA Ancash) reported on Thursday.

According to the officer, the occupancy rate stood at around 50% last Sunday but the figure has increased until Holy Thursday.

The head of AHORA Ancash indicated that, under normal conditions, reservations on these dates exceeded 80% and tourist visits are more than plentiful, to the point that hotels put out a "no vacancy" sign when they are booked to capacity.

"The strikes in recent months and the floods have generated fear among visitors and, on the other hand, the economic issue of increased prices of products and services had an impact on reservations, too," he said.

On the other hand, he highlighted the work of authorities for having carried out the maintenance of roads on time, as is the case of the access road to Pativilca, where the mining company Antamina —in partnership with Provias— left the road in optimal condition

In addition, the officer reported that the access road to the city of Huaraz has also been improved

Other improvements were made to facilitate access to tourist attractions, as in the case of the Llanganuco ravine near the Huascaran National Park.

Furthermore, other works have been carried out on the access road to the Pastoruri snow-capped mountain.

"Tourist destinations are being monitored. They are doing a good job, and we hope this will continue, as visitors may be put at risk, because as the place has received a Safe Travels stamp," the representative of AHORA Ancash added.
