Peru to take over UN Security Council Presidency again in 2019

10:47 | Lima, Jan. 14.

Peru will assume the UN Security Council presidency again during the first half of 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced.

"Peru has a global vocation and presence in international forums such as the United Nations, first through our non-permanent membership at the Security Council, whose presidency was held by our country last April and will be taken over again in the first half of 2019," the government department informed.

Likewise, the ministry noted the works undertaken by the Inca country —as a non-permanent member of this council— regarding aspects related to prevention of conflicts, efforts to combat violence against women, and the fight against terrorism

In this context, Peru has proven its international participation over the last months at the Ibero-American Summit and the APEC Summit in Papua New Guinea.

On the other hand, Peru proposed various working aspects, along with the European Union and European countries, in order to materialize its goal of joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

At the bilateral level, the South American country received several important visits, including the UK and Malaysian ministers, the Qatar leader, and the Spanish monarchs.

Furthermore, the Foreign Affairs Ministry's vice-ministers and director generals established political consultation mechanisms with several nations.

In other words, the ministry's activities have been very helpful and have encompassed every aspect of national interest that contributes to promoting a completely multidisciplinary foreign policy.
