Peru President: Spanish monarchs' visit proves good bilateral relations

14:31 | Lima, Nov. 12.

President Martin Vizcarra on Monday affirmed King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain's visit to Peru is proof of unity and strong bilateral relations, underlining he will continue strengthening these bonds.

Within this framework, relevant important joint cooperation agreements —related to communications and defense, among others— were signed.

Likewise, the statesman held a meeting with King Felipe VI, whereas First Lady Maribel Diaz met with Queen Letizia.

Furthermore, the Head of State awarded King Felipe VI with the Merit of Distinguished Services in the Rank of Special Grand Cross.

According to the top official, this recognition is a sign of gratitude from the Inca country's people for the concerns the monarch has repeatedly shown towards the South American nation.

Likewise, the statesman highlighted Peru and Spain's friendly ties, their shared past, as well as their trade and cultural projections.

President Vizcarra went on to add he will join the Spanish royals at an investment forum Tuesday, which will explore joint economic projects and new investment opportunities in the Inca nation.

On the other hand, Peru will be the guest country of honor at ARCOmadrid 2019 art fair on February 27-March 3.

"I will lead the Peruvian delegation in order to reaffirm and strengthen this relationship," the Head of State said after welcoming the royals to the Government Palace.
