15:59 | Chimbote (Ancash region), Apr. 23.
Skeletal remains and vessels from a pre-Inca burial were found at a shallow depth while trenches were being dug at a house in the town of San Pedro, in the district of Chimbote (Ancash region).
The discovery was made on Huandoy St. in the above-mentioned town, near Teresa Gonzales de Fanning School.
According to the owner of the house, Maira Rumaldo Vasquez, she had decided to expand the infrastructure of her home. Therefore, she and her family members began to dig ditches in order to lay concrete foundations.
Rumaldo was astonished when she found a skull and other bones that were identified as human remains.
Suddenly, they found a couple of ceramics in intact conditions in the ditch, which led them to presume that it would be a pre-Inca burial.
The neighbors reported the matter to representatives of the
Ministry of Culture so that it can take custody of the remains and carry out the corresponding investigations.
From time to time, similar discoveries are reported in the town of San Pedro.
Huaca San Pedro —a ceremonial pyramid-shaped adobe temple built during the Mochica period about 1,800 years ago— is located in the upper part of the area.
The archaeological site was declared Cultural Patrimony of the Nation in 2007.
