Peru: Shopping centers' sales to increase 7.84% in 2018

00:12 | Lima, Sep. 21.

Sales at shopping centers will expand 7.84% to S/27.65 billion (around US$8.36 billion) by the end of the year, according to Peruvian Shopping and Entertainment Centers Association's (ACCEP) estimates.

This result will be underpinned by a recovery in the economy and private consumption during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, among other things, ACCEP Vice-President Pedro Sevilla explained.

Last year, sales at a national level amounted to S/25.64 billion (around US$7.76 billion).

The guild also estimates there are some 80 malls throughout the national territory.

According to ACCEP, shopping center investments amounted to S/664 million (about US$200 million) in 2017. Plus, it expects sums of up to S/1.8 billion (about US$544 million) between 2018 and 2019.

Christmas season

On the other hand, Sevilla projects this year's Christmas season sales will see an increase of between 6% and 7%.

It should be noted debt alert and reporting service Sentinel affirms the end-of-the-year campaign seems promising.

This outcome is expected to be driven by the good economic performance and dynamic credit demand, mainly from micro and small-sized enterprises (MSEs)
