BCR: Peru's economy to accelerate in 4Q 2018

12:06 | Lima, Sep. 15.

Peruvian economy will accelerate in the fourth quarter of 2018, Central Reserve Bank (BCR) affirmed.

According to Economic Studies Department Manager Jorge Estrella, GDP growth will be higher in the fourth quarter compared to the previous one.

"For that reason, the Central Bank maintains its 4% expansion projection for 2018," the official expressed.

The lower dynamism recorded in June and July was temporary and linked to primary sectors' deceleration, the official explained.

"We will see a recovery of the primary sectors in the fourth quarter, both of the fishery sector —due to a second fishing season— as well as of the mining and hydrocarbons (segment)," he indicated.

With regard to the mining sphere, the third quarter registered a contraction due to a price effect caused by the trade war

However, a higher production is expected in the last three months of 2018.

"(…) Antamina has projected an output increase of 5%, which is joined by the announcements of Quellaveco and Mina Justa projects," Estrella concluded.
