Peru recognizes China expert mission's contribution to COVID-19 response

10:03 | Lima, Jun. 7.

Peru's Health Minister Victor Zamora and Chinese Ambassador to Peru Liang Yu participated in the recognition ceremony for the mission of Chinese experts —from Nanfang Hospital of Guangdong Province— who visited the South American country to assist in its fight against COVID-19.

According to the minister, when Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra communicated with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to request assistance, the People's Republic of China did not hesitate to send it immediately.

The Cabinet member stated that material support came first, including personal protective equipment, ventilators, among others.

"Nowadays, the most important contribution is immaterial, that is, knowledge, experience, and solidarity. What our Chinese counterparts have shared with our professionals is invaluable," he said on Saturday night.

"They have stood side by side with health workers at 12 hospitals in Lima and Arequipa, overseeing how they work, guiding them through the experience, and telling them how China managed to reduce COVID-19 cases," Zamora added.

During their visit, Chinese experts presented the strategies successfully applied by China in the fight against COVID-19 and explored the efforts made by the Andean nation.

The Chinese delegation includes Nanfang Hospital's Medical Department Deputy Director Guo Yi, Pneumology and Intensive Care Unit Department Director Liu Laiyu, Infectiology Department Deputy Director Zhou Hao, and Neurology Department's Intensive Care Unit Deputy Director Wu Yongming.
