China to support Peru in efforts to combat coronavirus

15:34 | Lima, Mar. 31.

President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday afternoon reported that the Chinese Government will support Peru in its efforts to stop the coronavirus spread, taking into account that the outbreak had begun in the Asian Giant, which —therefore— has experience in the fight against COVID-19.

The Head of State said that he had sent a letter to the President of China, Xi Jinping, requesting his collaboration. Thus, a positive response to the request was received last Monday.

"Just yesterday, we received from the Chinese Embassy in Peru the response to the letter (...). He tells us that he recognizes the efforts we are undertaking and that he also makes himself available for collaboration (…)," he told reporters.

In this sense, the top official stressed that the willingness of both presidents to work together to fight the COVID-19 pandemic have already been revealed, as they had done on other occasions.

Likewise, the statesman reported that he has met with the representative of the South Korean Embassy, as that country has implemented a strategy which has led to good results in stopping the coronavirus spread.

"It is about trying to see the positive (effects) and implementing them. We are in coordination for them to grant us part of their technological support but also of health procedures to contrast them with what we have. If we must adjust something, we will do it. This is about learning from good experiences," he expressed.

In this sense, President Vizcarra indicated that an effort will be made to articulate and replicate the good experiences of other countries, but adapting them to our reality.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Tuesday marks the sixteenth day of mandatory social isolation.
