Peru President: Response to social isolation has improved

13:06 | Lima, Mar. 17.

President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday highlighted that Peruvian citizens' response level to the social isolation —decreed within the framework of the COVID-19-related national emergency— is much higher today compared to Monday —the first day in force.

According to the Head of State, this social isolation translates into concrete figures, such as lower consumption of electrical energy, which has dropped by 25% yesterday and today.

Moreover, he made a call for reflection to those who insist on not complying with the measure.

"But there are always people who —despite not being in that group— try to go out (leave their homes) and infringe the law; that's what the National Police and the Armed Forces are for, to prevent those types of attitudes," he emphasized.

The President affirmed that —just as there has been a very significant improvement— he is confident that any deficiencies will be corrected.

"Thanks to the will of citizens and by acknowledging these small deficiencies, we are going to move forward in order to reach the efficiency that we require," he added.

Remarks were made during a press conference held at the Government Palace in Lima. The President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers on the occasion.
