Peru President: Social isolation the only way to curb coronavirus spread

12:34 | Lima, Mar. 17.

President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday affirmed that the mandatory social isolation is the only way to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Peru.

Said measure is included within the framework of the state of national emergency declared by the Government two days ago.

"Peruvians, I ask you to keep complying responsibly with the measures adopted by the Government," he posted on Twitter.

"We stay together despite the distance," he added, while insisting on the need to stay at home.

As is known, President Vizcarra on Sunday night reported that the Council of Ministers approved a Supreme Decree, which declares a state of national emergency for a period of 15 days and implies mandatory social isolation due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The measure aims to prevent the disease from further spreading in the South American country.
