President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday participated in the inauguration of the 4th International Seminar titled "Disaster risk management as a strategy for the development of safe and resilient cities."
The top official noted that Peruvians have the arduous task of being prepared to face climatic changes due to the high degree of vulnerability to natural phenomena.
"We need the efforts of everyone, of the authorities, professionals, mainly of the population (...)," he expressed.
The statesman said many scientists have dedicated their lives to technical and professional work, but few like Kuroiwa have tried to transfer that knowledge to the population with the aim of causing a cultural change.
"This will be a way for society to live in harmony with nature and in a safe way; that is the task we have ahead," he added.
The objective of the seminar is to strengthen the capacities of local government officials and technicians in the prospective, corrective, and reactive components of disaster risk management in urban settings; through the dissemination of national-international experiences in disaster risk management, urban planning, and city management.
