Peru President participates in Pacific Alliance forum

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday afternoon participated in a Pacific Alliance leaders meeting along with his counterparts Sebastian Piñera (Chile), Ivan Duque (Colombia), and Economy Secretary Graciela Marquez (Mexico).

The Americas Society/Council of the Americas (AS/COA) hosted the discussion on the future of work in the Member States and the challenges posed by the current global situation.

At the event, the Peruvian Head of State affirmed his administration intends to achieve an interconnected nation through the optical fiber backbone network by the Independence Bicentennial in 2021.

In this sense, he noted this goal will be reached in 22 regions —out of the 24— next year using this mechanism.

"We have to seek the inclusion and the participation of all citizens if we want to lay the foundations for sustainable development," the Head of State expressed in this sense.

He added the challenge of the Inca country is to enable new technologies to serve for the improvement of all citizens' quality of life.

Pacific Alliance

The Pacific Alliance —created in 2011— is an integration initiative focused on reducing trade barriers, as well as fostering the free circulation of goods, services, capitals, and people across its territories.

The bloc relies on observer countries and represents the eighth-largest economy in the world.

Nowadays, it has become the axis of a new way of doing business in the continent.

On an annual basis, the Pacific Alliance rotates the pro-tempore presidency among its members.

Peru handed over the presidency to Chile at the recent summit held in Lima.
