President Martin Vizcarra on Monday held a meeting with regional and local authorities elected earlier this month, who will take up duties in January 2019.
This gathering —called Big Cities and Virtually Elected Officials' Meeting— took place at the Government Palace this morning.
The initiative was aimed at assisting an organized and transparent transition process in order to properly start with the management of regional and local governments next year.
On the occasion, the Head of State was joined by Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva, Ministers
and Deputy-Ministers, Comptroller General Nelson Shack, public officials, as well as nine regional authorities and 58 mayors from big cities, including
Lima's Virtual Mayor Jorge Muñoz.
According to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers' (PCM) Decentralization Secretariat, the gathering's aim was to ensure the continuity of investment projects and public service delivery to the population —from the three branches of government— as well as to guarantee the start of next year's budget.
