Peru President meets with El Pilar indigenous community

14:04 | Tambopata (Madre de Dios region), Jun. 5.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Friday met with representatives of the Native Federation of Madre de Dios River and tributaries in the rainforest province of Tambopata.

There, the Head of State indicated that his Government is making every effort to reach out to the most remote native communities, as well as to provide care to those most in need.

On this visit, food, face masks, and hand sanitizer gel were delivered to the residents.

In addition, talks were held with the community chairman to establish plans and actions for the benefit of indigenous citizens in the eastern region.

Likewise, the top official said that the meeting was symbolic because June 5 is the World Environment Day.

On the occasion, the President was joined by Ministers Fabiola Muñoz (Environment), Sylvia Caceres (Labor), and Alejandro Neyra (Culture).

As is known, the statesman arrived in the eastern and rainforest Madre de Dios region on Friday to supervise the works for strengthening the health response capacity against COVID-19 —especially for the benefit of indigenous citizens.
