Peru President visits rainforest region on World Environment Day

12:22 | Puerto Maldonado (Madre de Dios region), Jun. 5.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra arrived in the eastern and rainforest Madre de Dios region on Friday to supervise the works for strengthening the health response capacity against COVID-19 —especially for the benefit of indigenous citizens.

After arriving in Puerto Maldonado, the top official and Deputy Health Minister Nancy Zerpa supervised the facilities and the proper care of COVID-19 patients at Santa Rosa General Hospital.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Head of State —joined by some Cabinet members and National Service for Protected Natural Areas (Sernanp) officials— visited the Tambopata National Reserve to supervise the progress of the production of 741,238 seedlings to reforest the Amazon.
