The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Wednesday ensured absolute neutrality in the general elections scheduled for April 11, 2021.

"We will not intervene or interfere (in the elections); calm down, the ground is even and we will make sure it is even for all matches," he said in remarks to Exitosa radio station.

Concerning the former inclusion of him in the Purple Party's list as candidate for the Second Vice-Presidency, the current Head of State indicated that he will submit a resignation letter to confirm his withdrawal from the race —as soon as the electoral body issues a resolution that admits the registration of said list.

Likewise, the statesman explained that —after having consulted with legal experts— he was informed that the process to withdraw from the electoral process must be initiated.

Within this framework, the top official affirmed that he is not a candidate anymore.

The President also indicated that the National Police of Peru deserves everyone's recognition because it has played an extremely important role during the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic —a task in which many agents have died.
