Peru President: Government committed to eradicating violence against women

10:35 | Lima, Dec. 30.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Monday affirmed that the Government is engaged in the fight aimed at eradicating violence against women.

"We are all in favor of a tolerant society without machismo, but our effort will be insufficient if we fail to involve all authorities and citizens," he posted on Twitter.

The Head of State's message was joined by a video that identifies warning signs to be taken into account in order to
prevent violence against women.

The video —based on real statistics— reenacts the voice message a young woman receives from her mother, in which she talks about the dangers of male partners' attempts to control women.

"At the beginning everything is nice, but if he controls you today, there will be violence tomorrow. Do not let him tell you what to do because he will end up believing you belong to him," the mother is heard saying.

The scene takes place at a home with obvious signs of violence: things scattered on the floor, furniture in disarray, and the photo of a woman with the frame destroyed.

"Don't expect your life to end like mine," concludes the mother's voice in the video.
