on Thursday called to promote an ethical, conscious, and supportive behavior, as well as to restore the values that inspired Independence, during this Bicentennial year.
"It is necessary to promote a conscious, ethical, supportive, and empathic behavior, and this requires spreading and practicing values that guide our actions at all times," the Peruvian leader pointed out.
He explained that trust and hope —two values that he brings to his administration— are built by acting in a transparent and democratic way, seeking the common good, putting aside self-benefit, promoting rule of law,
eradicating all acts of corruption, and telling the truth to citizens.
Moreover, Mr. Sagasti called for responsibility to undertake commitments, fulfill obligations, and face the consequences of actions.
"Being responsible implies worrying about other people; guaranteeing, respecting, and protecting conditions that ensure a decent living; caring for the environment; and recognizing others as one's fellows," he explained.
The President noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused worldwide changes in health, work, economy, and social relations, which are combined with the impact generated by climate change that alters ecosystems where human beings have been able to develop.
