The President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, attended the graduation ceremony at a Peruvian National Police (PNP) school in the city of Chiclayo, Lambayeque region, on Monday.

During his keynote address, the Head of State said the graduating non-commissioned officers join public service, not only to confront crime, but also to take on different roles across public administration.

The top official explained that, unlike the Army, the Air Force, and the Navy, the PNP is closely linked to the population.

"I hope that you will know how to fight crime as many good police agents once did, those who fell during the time of terrorism but were never defeated, instead managing to rise again; that is what I want," he said.

This ceremony took place at the PNP Higher Technical Professional School's Courtyard of Honor.

The Head of State was accompanied by Cabinet Chief Luis Arroyo, as well as Ministers Jose Zapata (Interior) and Carlos Diaz (Defense). PNP General Commander Oscar Arriola was also present.

The "Citizen Protection" class comprises 335 students.
